Physical Education and Sports

Here at Heritage International School we aim to instill a life-long love of physical activity and sport in our students. As well as offering a broad range of different activities within PE lessons, we are a member of the ‘International Schools Sports Association of Kampala’ league (ISSAK), which gives students of all ages the opportunity to compete against other member schools in Kampala.

There's no better study and extra-curricular environment than that of Heritage. A place with great teacher collaboration and teamwork. I had always desired to work at a Christ centered school and here I am at Heritage International School. I think I am at my dream school! - Roger, Physical Education Teacher and Coach

ISSAK currently has 7 member schools with a few more hoping to join this coming year. The ISSAK calendar is divided into 3 main ‘seasons’; Girls and Boys Basketball and Soccer for U9 (under 9’s), U11’s, U13’s, U16’s and U20’s and Volleyball for U13’s up to U20’s. For our younger students (Under 7’S), we offer some less competitive friendly tournaments through the school year in Basketball and Soccer. Our fantastic team of coaches consists of those from both within the school community directly (teachers and parents) and hired coaches with whom we have established excellent relationships over the years.

ICSA

International Christian Schools of Africa

Heritage is a founding member of ICSA. This annual tournament was formed to give our U20 athletes the opportunity to compete in sport (Basketball or Soccer) and have fellowship with student athletes from similar schools. We have hosted this tournament twice since its formation in 2016 and have enjoyed being hosted by schools in Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. It has become a highlight of the sporting calendar.

Outside of these ‘seasoned’ sports, ISSAK schools compete in 1 day events in Track and Field, Cross-Country and Swimming. ISSAK members schools host the majority of the games and events apart from the Track and Field and Cross-Country events which take place at the National Stadium and Botanical Gardens respectively. We are fortunate enough to have a beautiful spacious campus with plenty of field and court space to make all this possible and the majority of our students participate at some point during their time at HIS. Many compete year after year in more than 1 sport. Heritage are currently the league Champions in the Boys U20 Basketball and the Secondary Track and Field and Cross-Country.
