Transitions
Our students come to Heritage from all over the world, and during their time with us we try to develop a global perspective to prepare them for when they will leave us to study all over the world. The Transitions Coordinator helps students in Secondary school with career and university guidance.
Focusing on work experience in Grade 11, students work in a job shadowing situation for a week to get a better idea of future career plans. Students are encouraged to attend college and university fairs to help further explore their future options. There is a Heritage-based career fair in the first semester where we host local professionals for a morning of questions and exploration of a variety of career paths. Our recent fair included pilots, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs, lawyers, and medical professionals. The students’ time here at Heritage is topped off with their final semester course Graduate Transitions. This is when the students explore topics that will help with their journey into post-secondary life.
We are very excited to be introducing the BridgeU careers and university portal, an online resource that provides detailed university applications information. This covers everything from course requirements, to career profiling, to information on different destination countries and cultures. It is accessible to all High School students, both in and out of school.
The Transition Coordinator is also concerned with transitions into and within Heritage, and there is a comprehensive program of preparation and taster events to smooth transitions between the different parts of the school, while helping new students make friends and get settled quickly.
